You are an AWESOME Parent: Parents, thank you for investing time in your student's education. The fact you are visiting this page illustrates your desire to help your child excel not only in math but in life. This section of my website will focus on tips for you on helping your student acheive stronger understanding of mathematics and algebra.
Many parents are at a loss on how to help their child with "today's math." Relax, the math we teach today is the same old math we all learned years ago in school. Don't worry about filling in all the blanks on worksheets exactly correct. Half the time I don't know what "they" want in that extra blank either. The main objective is to reach a solution and then be able to explain why it is correct. If you know a better way to solve a problem than an example in the book, by all means, show it to your child. I am less interested in the kids learning a specific process and more interested in their ability to think through a problem and find the correct solution.
About Planners: Several parents have expressed concern about their student not keeping up the entries in the school planner. I certainly share your concern. Together, we can help our students become more organized. Please take a few moments each evening to look at the assignment page in your child's planner. You interest will encourge better participation. If the notes made by your child are not clear to you, ask him/her to explain. If he/she can not explain their assignments, ask him/her to write a more complete description of the assignments.
